Writing

We love writing! We are so focused and engaged during Writers Workshop. Here are some pictures of us writing.

Electric Train

This week Alex's dad brought in an electric train on a huge table for us to play with.  We love our visiting train. We are busy decorating the table with bridges, roads, cars and buildings. We are drawing pictures and painting on the table. We are making a community around the railroad. Some of us even blogged about the train set. Thank you to Alex and her dad for letting us borrow their train set.

Google Hangout

Today we had our first google hangout with five other classes to listen to chapter 2 of Marty McGuire.  We were so excited to see ourselves and other students on the SmartBoard screen.  Mrs. Sarchet read the chapter and we could hear and see her on the screen. We are looking forward to our next hangout. 

Global Read Aloud

Today we started our Global Read Aloud with the story Marty McGuire. Some of us participated last year in Charlotte's Web Read Aloud and we were so excited when we found out that we were starting today.  Last year some of us met Kate Messner on Skype and we remembered how she became an author.   We started with making predictions about what the story was about based on the cover of the book. We used TodaysMeet to type in our predictions. We scanned QR codes which took us to TodaysMeet. We were so surprised when we saw that people had already written on the page. Ms. Leech explained that other schools in Surrey and Ontario could also leave their thoughts and predictions on this page. It was especially exciting to find out that our friends across the hall were also making predictions. We could read their predictions on our SmartBoard.

Writers Workshop

We love to write. We love to choose where we write and what we write about. We also choose what we use to write on and with. Some of us are making books using paper, some of us prefer to use notebooks and some of us like to write using the iPads or computers. Before we write we look at our writing goals and choose what we are going to focus on. We also look at our writing continuum to see where our writing is and what we need to do to take our writing to the next level.
